The first ascent, shrouded in the mists of history, is believed to have been achieved by the local inhabitants of Tignes and some soldiers around 1808 or 1810. However, the first officially recorded ascent dates back to August 5, 1860, by William Mathews and the renowned guide Michel Croz.
